Oil Studies

Lately I've decided to concentrate on learning oils. The only hours I have for this is 10.30 - 3.00am. It's been good. I'm keeping written records and documenting each stage so to refer back to what I've learnt. It's interesting starting with something new and giving up to the fact that no matter what you know about painting it doesn't relate to OILS. I've always had a fear about oils but have always known that's where I'll end up in my artistic career. So, in rambling on - here's the second painting I've finished, and with dedication and an open mind here's to many more.

Michael Peck

www.michaelpeckart.com

Michael Peck’s artistic practice is concerned with the sensation of disorientation and dislocation that is often felt within the post modern world. Exploring issues regarding the loss of cultural identity, his work particularly focuses on the effects within minority groups and individuals existing on the fringe who are challenged to assimilate within the larger community.

The scenes in Michael’s paintings are quiet, the participants are paused as they stand withdrawn, juxtaposed against a dynamic population; they are overwhelmed by mass-culture; one which has been composed from the interaction, assimilation and constant change of subcultures. His work looks at the place of the individual within a pluralistic society where a constant shift of values and beliefs leaves a great uncertainty of belonging.

Michael's next amazing exhibition 'THE LANDING' will be held at METRO Gallery is this Wed 16th.

When you give an artist of Martin Wittfooth's (interviewed) caliber carte blanche to curate a show, what else can you expect but a stellar lineup of painters and contributed work that aheres to a high standard. Dark Water opens this Saturday, November 12th at the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica with participants encouraged to thematically base their pieces on the title of the show.

A full list of artists can be seen here.

Aron Wiesenfeld

I first saw Aron Wiesenfeld's paintings attached to a Martin Wittfooth curated exhibition 'Dark water'. Other than that, I couldn't find anymore information about him.

Lindsay Carr

www.lindseycarr.co.uk

With her subjects, compositions and palette strongly influenced from European and Chinese Natural history paintings, Lindsay is able to delve and explore the problems of Nature vs Nurture. She illustrates a sense of calmness within the frames, allowing you to peruse her work with an open mind.
For me they trigger thoughts and memories, and remind me of the importance these creatures have in a planet we have taken over.
